Astitva Foundation, Chhattisgarh in collaboration with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, USA, and VY Hospital Raipur address sickle cell disease campaigns in rural areas to raise awareness, provide education, and promote prevention & management strategies.
Messages Conveyed:
Astitva Foundation, Chhattisgarh observes World Sickle Cell Day to increase awareness and screening of sickle cell disease in rural Chhattisgarh. Following the theme recognized by the United Nations this year “Hope Through Progress: Advancing Care Globally,” we organized 5 sickle cell campaigns spreading awareness about the trait and the disease, covering around 500 people in 13 villages. We received huge support from the school staff, students, primary healthcare centers, doctors, and local villagers. The street play 'Nukkad Natak' was relevant, engaging, and able to relay the message to the people.
Our Sickle Cell Awareness Campaign informs communities about the trait and the disease. Our initiative provides educational workshops, resources, and support to raise awareness and promote testing at the Primary Health Care Center. In the pursuit of creating a well-informed and resilient community, targeted interventions and educational campaigns are held.
A compelling ‘Nukkad Natak’ was performed to bring the crucial message of sickle cell awareness to the heart of the rural community. The street play captivated the audience with a mix of entertainment and education, shedding light on the impact of the disease and conveyed the message of sickle cell awareness in an engaging and relatable manner.
The "Swasthya Samwad" successfully reached a significant portion of the rural community, promoting awareness, early detection, and proactive health management. The campaign fostered a sense of empowerment within the community, encouraging individuals to take charge of their health and well-being.
The initiative targeted a critical health issue by not only empowering the community with knowledge and resources but also increasing attendance of school children by screening and fostering a culture of health awareness and prevention. These collective actions mark a vital step in our mission to promote education and improve health outcomes in rural areas.
