'Saamarthya' is Astitva Foundation Chhattisgarh's Special Child initiative, built on the belief that every child, regardless of their circumstances or abilities, deserves access to education, healthcare, growth opportunities, and the chance to reach their full potential. Rooted in the principle of focusing on abilities rather than disabilities, 'Saamarthya' reflects a commitment to creating an inclusive society where freedom, equality, and opportunity are accessible to all, ensuring that no child is left behind.
The initiative embodies the essence of uplifting marginalized communities and addressing the barriers that often prevent rural children with disabilities from participating fully in society. In resource-constrained rural settings, 'Saamarthya' promotes a strengths-based approach that recognizes and nurtures each child's unique capabilities, fostering confidence, independence, and meaningful participation within their communities.

Saamarthya, the "Special Child” initiative focusing on abilities rather than disabilities is a commendable approach ensuring no child is left behind. In such settings, where resources may be limited, fostering a mindset that values and nurtures the abilities of every child is crucial for inclusive and equitable development.

Pinki (name of the child masked for privacy reasons) is 3 years old and suffers from a disability that prevents her from learning at school.
'Saamarthya' stands as a testament to the belief that true progress is measured not by how we support the privileged, but by how effectively we create opportunities for those who have traditionally been overlooked. By celebrating abilities and fostering inclusion, the initiative contributes towards building communities where every child can learn, grow, and participate with dignity and purpose.

Kanha (name of the child masked for privacy reasons) is 16 years old and is unable to attend school after 10th grade.
Disabled children are challenged with isolation and exclusion. We are working with such children to provide meaningful friendship, have creative discussions, perform fun activities and channel their time and energy into learning skills of their interest.

Ketan (name changed to protect the child's privacy) is a 4-year-old child with developmental disabilities that have impacted his learning and participation in school activities. Through Saamarthya's interventions, he is receiving support to improve hand mobility and fine motor dexterity, enabling him to strengthen essential skills required for learning, self-care, and greater independence.
Through inclusive interventions and supportive environments, Astitva Foundation Chhattisgarh works to bridge gaps in access and opportunity while empowering children with disabilities to develop valuable life skills, build meaningful relationships, and lead fulfilling lives. By emphasizing potential over limitations, 'Saamarthya' not only addresses challenges of isolation and exclusion but also advances a more inclusive, equitable, and just society where every child is valued for their abilities and empowered to thrive.

Kanika (not the original name of the child for privacy reasons) is 7 years old and studying in 1st grade at a village school of Chhattisgarh. She cannot walk without support of her mother. Every child with special needs has something incredible to offer.
The initiative works on honing their gross motor and cognitive skills through music, stories, arts, and crafts, and socializing with our volunteers by focusing on their abilities instead of disabilities. Astitva Foundation, Chhattisgarh is recognizing and building upon their unique strengths that not only address the challenges of isolation and exclusion but also empower disabled children to lead fulfilling lives, build meaningful relationships, and develop valuable skills.
