During the COVID-19 pandemic, Astitva Foundation Chhattisgarh stepped forward to support vulnerable communities, especially in rural and remote areas of the state. Recognizing the urgent need for awareness, safety, and access to healthcare, the foundation conducted multiple grassroots COVID-19 awareness and vaccination advocacy drives across villages in Chhattisgarh.
Through sustained community engagement, several villages achieved full vaccination coverage, while many others recorded significant increases in vaccination uptake. Alongside awareness efforts, the foundation distributed essential COVID-19 relief materials, including food supplies, hygiene kits, and safety essentials to families affected by the crisis.

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Astitva Foundation Chhattisgarh launched focused relief and awareness initiatives to support communities across rural and underserved regions of the state. Understanding the critical importance of health education and vaccination, the foundation organized extensive community outreach and vaccination awareness drives in multiple villages.
In total, over 10,000 relief items were distributed, helping communities navigate one of the most challenging periods in recent history. These efforts reflected Astitva Foundation Chhattisgarh’s commitment to public health, community resilience, and equitable access to life-saving information and resources.

Our grassroots campaign #WearmaskGetvaccinated started in villages around Raipur in Chhattisgarh, India. As we drive awareness around simple ways to stop the spread, save lives, and stay healthy through the pandemic, we also aim to bust myths related to the coronavirus and COVID-19 vaccine.
We have been in touch virtually and otherwise with the women and girls supported by Astitva Foundation Chhattisgarh, even after they stopped coming to schools and continue to stay home. We have been countering myths in their minds with facts. We are further ramping up to connect one-to-one virtually, and as much as possible in other ways, to address their concerns and immediate basic needs.

Our “Tike ki Takat” awareness campaign began on 16 May, 2021 with a virtual session focused on COVID-19 vaccination and simple safety measures. Senior doctors from the US addressed common concerns, shared accurate information, and helped dispel vaccine-related myths.
The session connected communities across Chhattisgarh, creating awareness and encouraging safe practices during the pandemic. This initiative aimed to empower rural families with the knowledge needed to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Together, we continue working toward healthier and safer communities.

It’s deeply rewarding for all of us at Astitva Foundation Chhattisgarh to see our grassroots efforts pay off! During our interactions with women and girls across villages in Chhattisgarh, we noticed a strong reluctance toward vaccination due to widespread myths and misinformation. Through our “Tike Ki Takat” awareness campaign on COVID-19 vaccination and safety measures, we connected a panel of experienced doctors with the villagers to address all their concerns directly.
Following these online sessions, many villagers not only decided to get vaccinated but also helped spread accurate information within their communities. We are thrilled to see local media reporting the success of these vaccination efforts across the region.

Even as cities in India struggle to cope with COVID-19 crisis, villagers are trying to stay positive and cope with the new normal.
Rampant myths about vaccination, specifically among women, are making the situation more challenging. We are trying our best to reach out to them with online support and even other ways possible on the ground.
